Someone at Yahoo News has a sense of humor (INCORRECT)
Army aims to coax back former troops - Yahoo! News is th title of the story they are running. Go on, click on the link; have a look at that picture. Recognize that scene?

Full Metal Jacket, Stanley Kubrick. A movie about Army abuse.

UPDATE: Apparently, I am wrong (as duly pointed out in the comments by craig); this is an actual picture of Marines. For anyone who's seen Full Metal Jacket, you will still see the uncanny resemblance; I suppose Kubrick really does his homework.

Thanks Craig!

Comments:
Full Metal Jacket is about Marines. Maybe you are thinking of Platoon, by Oliver Stone? That was about the Army...

BTW, you misidentified that photo. That's a real marine drill instructor, and a real marine recruit. That's the new cammie woodland print. It's only been in service a couple years.

BTW, we don't (ex-mArines like me) consider the treatment we recieve in bootcamp to be abuse. We're strange that way.

Craig, you're right on both counts... I'm pretty amazed. I am not American nor am I an Army type, so the lack of understanding of the difference between the Army and the Marines can be forgiven, but that shot (which you are right about, I misidentified it) looks exactly like a lot of scenes from "Full Metal Jacket".

Live a day... :)

Thanks for the correction, I'll amend the posting.

Hi Youssef... Full Metal Jacket was so well done, it really DID seem like bootcamp. I've never seen it portrayed better in another movie. Although it was a dark and unglamorous look at the Marines during Vietnam, it's really a masterpiece in it's realism.

The personal blog of Youssef Assad. Low-narcissism rating, probably bound to end up unsuitable for children and uncharacteristically sensitive adults. Boring unless you regard the intersection of computing and social science as a worthy contender for vanilla waffles in summer in terms of desirability.
